Is Facebook reneging on our ability to “claim” community pages? Back on December 1, I wrote about how you could “claim” a community page on Facebook, after seeing an article B.L. Ochman wrote in Ad Age. But here’s the thing…
Facebook has NOT contacted several of us who “claimed” pages.
Facebook hasn’t contacted me in the month since I claimed a page… and according to others who have left comments on my original post, they haven’t been contacted either.
And further…
Facebook has REMOVED the option to claim a page.
The bottom of the community page used to look like this (my emphasis added):

Today, with yet another Facebook user interface change, those options are over on the left sidebar… but look what is missing:

So what’s the deal, Facebook?
Will we who are responsible for online marketing for companies ever have the ability to claim the Community Pages, as you said we would? Or are you yanking that ability?
If you found this post interesting or useful, please consider either:
An intentional change, or just Facebook mucking around with stuff to see what sticks? As usual, it’s impossible to know! *Sigh*
Sadly, I’ve been trying to claim a page since October. No luck either. Good to see I’m not the only one… 🙁
Yes, the situation has changed, and it’s obnoxious in that the initial page is made by repeating a Wikipedia article which in itself may have serious issues. FB has to get a grip on this situation, but how can they unless some super power sues them for trademark or IP violation. FB loves to confuse everyone by changing these things around all the time. As a result, the average person doesn’t get it, and I have seen many pages to honor dead artists which are actually just “community pages” made by created an account under the artist’s name. This is inappropriate because then the creator’s posts all appear under the artist’s name, which is more than creepy. Community pages for ideas and causes may have made sense, but groups should be used for these nominative community pages and it’s Facebook’s fault that they offer no guidance tot he clueless on this subject AND that they allow unscrupulous parties to take advantage of it all.
Dan, I know this post is old… but I just came across it.
I finally got an answer on March 30, but it wasn’t positive. Nor was it helpful, nor was it specific:

Remember back in December when we were talking about how to “claim” a “Community Page” on Facebook? And then in January when it appeared Facebook was reneging on our ability to claim community pages? Despite all that, I was proceeding…
